Reed diffusers in a home with dogs or cats
You don't have to give up diffusers. Choose a reed diffuser that doesn't release oil droplets, put it where it can't be knocked over, and, where possible, in a room your pets don't enter.

How to use it
- Choose reed sticks over ultrasonic or spray diffusers.
- Place it where pets can't reach it or knock it over.
- Where possible, use it in a room pets don't enter; at least leave the door open so they can leave.Air the room afterwards.
- Use it for short periods, not all day. Under 30 minutes is the usual recommendation.
- Don't use it if a pet has breathing problems, or if you keep birds.
- Never put undiluted oil on a pet; wipe spills right away.
If something seems off
If your pet stumbles, seems limp, vomits, or otherwise acts unlike themselves, remove the diffuser, air the room, and contact your vet right away.
Bring the bottle or a photo so the vet knows the product. This page is not a substitute for veterinary care.
Products differ
The conditions depend on the fragrance composition and how it diffuses. If the brand has published use conditions for its product, read those first.
